Hybrid vehicles
These are cars which have relatively small battery and its charging is done only while the engine is running. They use their electric engine most when the typical gas consumption is at the highest and when in need of boost.
These vehicles do not use charging stations.
Plug-in Hybrids
These types of vehicles have bigger battery than the normal hybrids and can run a limited amount of kilometers on electric power alone. These vehicles are one of the more practical solutions, as besides the normal city driving, they can go on long range drives and not count on electricity alone, but use gasoline and make use of the current gas stations network. This takes the anxiety of planning when going on long trips, where to charge the car.
The gasoline engine can also charge the electric engine and it can also work in tandem with the electric to boost the power of the vehicle

Electric Vehicles
These cars have the biggest battery and rely solely on the electric engine. They charge only at electric charging stations, but in contrast to the plug-in hybrids, they have the option of charging on the high power charging stations (superchargers)
These cars are free of tax in Bulgaria and can be parked anywhere, without the need of payment.
Although the range of these vehicles is significantly higher than the plug-ins, on long roads, you still have to plan where to charge, to avoid situations when you run out of electricity and there’s no charging station nearby.

At home or a parking spot
For most drivers of plug-in hybrids and electric cars, this will be the main way to charge the vehicle. It is most convenient and affordable.
The only minus is that these stations do not charge the car with the same rate as high power ones. Charging at home has a limitation of the amount of power which can be provided to the charging station and that’s the reason they are designed with specific capacity.
At work or public places
This is an alternative to home charging and can be useful if someone has forgotten to charge his car at home. These stations are not that different from the home ones, the difference can come from the options which designate who can charge, at what rate and when. They can also provide options for different payment methods to charge.
Electric stations for business
Some gas stations have stated building charging areas with high power charging stations. These stations have extremely high output and can charge a vehicle in less that 1h. They are significantly bigger than the home and office options and offer more options for how they are used by the business (payments, charging rate, etc.)

Cable Types
Mennekes Type 2 – this is the main connector for Europe. Almost all EVs use it. There are 7 pins with 32 amp capacity with maximum output of 22 kW. This connector is used for Level 1 charging (monophase up to 7.6 kW) and Levelo 2 charging (three-phase up to 22 kW). This connector can be locked automatically once inserted and this option can be controlled by the vehicle settings.
This cable is used in North America and Japan. It consists of 5 pins 80 amps maximum with total output of (19.2 kW). This connector can use only monophase power and cannot be locked by the vehicle. Almost all cars in the US use it, except Teslas.
This is the main cable for Chine. The interesting part about this connector is that it is used both the AC and DC charging, the name of the cable is the same for both. This though, doesn’t mean there aren’t differences between the AC and DC version of the cable. The pins are different and the cables are not compatible with one another. The AC type variant can support up to 7.4 kW charging. The design also resembles the Mennekes Type 2 connector, but this doesn’t mean that a Chinese car can use the Mannekes Type 2 connector. If that happens, there could be damage to the car.
This is the high power connector used in Europe. Almost all modern electric cars use this connector to charge and the high power stations. The cable utilizes the same connector as Mennekes Type 2 with addition to 2 more pins and this ramps up the charging capability to 360 kW.
This is the high power connector used in North America, Canada and Kora. Similar to CCS Type 2, this connector utilizes the SAE J1772 with addition to 2 pins to reach 360 kW capability.
This is the high power connector used in China. The design is the same as the AC type connector, but the pins are totally different and can support up to 237.5 kW charging.
Teslas, as opposed to other electric brands, do not have AC and DC version cables, they differentiate based on region. For the US they use the NCAS connector and it can charge up to 250 kW.
Teslas, as opposed to other electric brands, do not have AC and DC version cables, they differentiate based on region. For EU they use the Mennekes Type Connector which enables Teslas to charge on all charging stations in EU besides their own. The Tesla branded charging stations though, can recognize if a Tesla is charging or not and be set to enable the charge, the speed and so forth. This is something controlled by Tesla itself.
